Dhu al-Qadah is the eleventh month of the Islamic year and the first of three sacred months in a row. The name means "the one of sitting", because the Arabs stayed home from fighting during it.
It is one of the months of Hajj, and pilgrims from distant countries begin travelling to Makkah during it. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) performed all of his umrahs in Dhu al-Qadah, apart from the one he combined with his Hajj.
The Treaty of Hudaybiyyah was agreed in Dhu al-Qadah of 6 AH. The truce between the Muslims of Madinah and the Quraysh of Makkah looked unfavourable at first, yet it opened the way for Islam to spread peacefully across Arabia.
