Islamic Date Today
The current date in the Hijri calendar, side by side with the Gregorian date.
Monday, 5 October 2026
This date updates automatically based on the date on your device. The Islamic day begins at sunset, so after Maghrib the Hijri date moves to the next day.
When does the Islamic day begin?
In the Islamic calendar a new day begins at sunset, not at midnight. The night comes first and the daytime follows it. This is why the first Tarawih prayer of Ramadan is prayed on the evening before the first fast, and why the night of Eid falls before the day of Eid.
The date shown on this page changes at midnight in step with the Gregorian date. If it is already after Maghrib where you are, the Hijri date has moved on to the next day.
Why today's Hijri date differs between countries
There is no single Islamic date for the whole world on every day. Saudi Arabia follows the pre-calculated Umm al-Qura calendar for civil purposes. Many other countries wait for the crescent moon to be sighted locally before declaring a new month.
As a result, two countries can be one day apart, and occasionally two. The date here follows Umm al-Qura. If your country announced the month a day later, subtract one day from the Hijri date shown.
